Carroll Gardens

Smith Street joins 3rd Street in dramatic fashion at the top of a hill, and the geographic effects of the F train surfacing as the roadway drops away, make this westward vista a must-see for Brooklyn sunsets.

Istanbul Park

293 7th Ave Bet 6th and 7th Street.

I’ve had Turkish food before in Manhattan, but never like this. My single bit of advice to anyone visiting Istanbul Park is “come hungry.”

The menu offers a wide selection of dishes, many of them vegetarian, but for us, the two standouts were the eggplant salad (delicious, with a hint of smoke) and the “mixed grill”, a meat platter featuring succulent grilled chicken, beef, and lamb, as well as an assortment of gyro meat. Bread is fresh-baked and served with olive oil. The staff is beyond friendly, and they, together with the spacious room, give Istanbul Park a wonderfully inviting atmosphere.

D’Vine Taste

150 7th Ave (between Garfield Pl & Carroll St)

There’s a reason Zagat and Yelp are gushing about D’Vine Taste. These guys do it right. Don’t leave Brooklyn without trying their “protein bread” or fig cobler with cardimom. Every concoction infused with care and a lifetime’s worth of experience, then tweaked ever-so-slightly. Expect to spend more than average on bread, but this is not eating for sustenance, this is a rare treat.

Brownstones

Park Slope’s many blocks of brownstones give the neighborhood its distinctive appearance.

Prospect Park

A pair of lions guards the entrance to Prospect Park. Prospect Park is “the other central park”, and boasts some of the most beautiful landscapes in the five boroughs, with fewer crowds fewer tourists than the real Central Park.

Konditori

240 7th Ave (between 5th St & 4th Ave)

Konditori is a Swedish coffee shop that has locations in several “hip” New York neighborhoods. It’s a welcome alternative to starbucks, and a great hang as well.
